The twist & turns of life can be a bit overwhelming. Back in the 80’s, when I was in prison (AKA: High School), I told my mother & friends that I wanted to be a massage therapist & skin care technician. Well, not only did I get the wrath of my wonderful mother, I received it from my friends. I will never forget my friends & family telling me that my ideas are just wrong (You know, touching others peoples bodies. How scandalous!!) Looking back the 1980’s were extremely conservative. After all, it was the decade of “Just Say No!” I can understand their views. However, I am disappointed in my self for not standing up & perusing my dreams. So, after I was released from prison (Dunedin High School), I worked my way over to the University of South Florida. After I finally earned my BA in Sociology, I thought, “Now what?” Through college I made $4.00 an hour & I had to work 2 jobs. I actually thought that all my hard work would pay off! WRONG!!!! My first job out of college paid $6.35 per hours. I worked the graveyard shift at a 4 diamond hotel & resort. Wow! What an accomplishment.
Realizing that crime actually does pay, I eventually ended up working DUI county probation cases for Hillsborough County. After 18 months, I landed a job with the Department of Corrections in Sarasota. This is not a job I would wish on my enemy. My colleagues were great. The work was terrible. A Felony Probation officer is nothing but a low level bureaucrat with a pen ( I stole this description from Bill Barry ). I then had the brilliant ideal of attending Law Enforcement Academy in Manatee county. What on earth was I thinking!!! I did really enjoy the training; however, I realized that this law enforcement field was not for me. Down the road from my office there was a massage & skin care school. I marched down there, signed up & gave my 4 week notice to the State of Florida. I have never looked back. Well, sometimes. There are certain aspects of the job I do miss.
Currently, I am licensed in massage/skin/nails in the State of Florida. I am also an international C.I.D.E.S.C.O. Diplomat & certified by the NCEA. I am very passionate about my work. I am currently working at a beautiful resort but I am burning out. I would love to get more into the education end of aesthetics & bodywork. I did have my own shop but I closed it. My heart was not in my work. I do have a small group of devoted clients that I consider my friends. The support has been much appreciated thought the years. I would never make it without them!
So this is where I begin. I welcome conservations about body work & aesthetics. I know that it is not cool to mix business with mindless thoughts on my blog. As of right now, this is what I feel I need to do. I am also politically charged so I welcome all comments on my post. Beware. I am pretty progressive. I have been called a liberal. I am not the least bit offended. Bring it on! I enjoy a challenging debate as long as it does not end up in name calling. Please don’t call me bad names. It hurts my feelings (You can see the bleeding from my heart right now!)
